Organizing for a better economy.

“Those who said it can’t be done are usually interrupted by others doing it.” - James Baldwin.

With Baldwin House, we launched an experiment in 2021: can neighbors and organizers replace developers to create affordable housing in Washington DC? The answer: yes, we can! And we have.

Now, community owns an apartment building in highly-gentrifying neighborhood of Washington DC and we stood up our own community fund to buy -- neighbors loaned us $1.5 million at no-interest to buy the building.

As a founding organizer of Baldwin House in Washington DC, I believe community-led economic change is possible. I bring this organizing experience, along with my experience as a founding organizer of Ward 1 Mutual Aid, to my community organizing for a better economy.

I work freelance with national groups that support cooperatives in the U.S., including with New Economy Coalition, Seed Commons, Resource Generation, and more.

We created a toolkit answering the 4 most common questions on how we built Baldwin House. Here it is!
